Tennis in Nairobi Kenya started officially in 19th century through the inception of the Kenya Lawn Tennis Association – KLTA. It was influenced by the white community, introducing sports activities . As a result of this growth, Mr Jim Davies, who had a great passion for tennis conceptualized the idea of having professional training facility and staff  to meet the growing demand and interest tennis in Kenya generated. This was the beginning of JD Tennis Academy in Nairobi Kenya.Tennis kenya was registered in 1975 and the facility only had one court – a murrum court later changed its name to JD Tennis Academy. Many years later, as the sport progressed and the academy grew, there was need to expand and we therefore added 3 deco-turf courts. Overall, our set up comprises of 3 hard courts and 1 murrum court a mini tennis court and a club house We offer training for both toto’s(bellow 5 years), juniors and adults, there is group training and private tuition, depending on the individual taste.

We have trained and coached many top junior and senior players over the years, our professional staff is among the best in the country, we provide our services to all kind of people and of all ages and levels. Over the years, the JD academy has opened its doors to the under privileged in society, especially the slums, giving coaching scholarships

When it comes to tournaments, the Jd tennis Nairobi Kenya has been in the forefront in running junior tennis events in the region. E.g.

  1. JD hard court junior championship for the past 17 years and
  2. Madaraka day for the last 7 years (since 2007)

The JD hard court junior championship has been a traditional K.L.T.A curtain raiser and attracts players from all over the counties and of different nationalities. Madaraka day, a Wanjiku Ngaruiya sponsored tournament is also very popular in Africa. These 2 are among the most popular events in the Kenyan junior Tennis calendar. Wanjiku Ngaruiya, a JD Tennis protege and a very successful junior player and former kenya ladies champion, decided to give back to tennis after seeing the benefits tennis can provide in life.
